Projects

The Institute has prioritized the development of projects in several directions:

   Master Scientific Research Projects

  1.  "Romania at the beginning of the 21st century" - evaluates the main public policies for re-launching the development of the Romanian society, from the perspective of the process of European integration of Romania (growth policies and integration policies). Within this project, the impact of the poverty phenomenon on the social, economic and political behavior of the population is studied, solutions being proposed in order to counteract the consequences of this phenomenon.
  2.  "Social democracy – doctrine values and political pragmatism" - aims at evaluating and comparing the ideas, principles and practices of European and Romanian social democracy. The main tendencies of European and Romanian social democracy are analyzed ("the third way" in Europe and Romania), solutions being proposed for their harmonization and compatibilization.
  3.  "Contemporary general issues in a social democratic approach" - studies the social and economic effects of globalization (redefining the concepts of sovereignty, democracy, state, nation), the issue of federalizing / con-federalizing Europe and the role of the nation / real nation (civic) and virtual nation (cultural). Another aspect approached by this project refers to the civic and multicultural state features, mechanisms and perspectives, in the context of European Union reform/enlargement.

   Political Analysis Projects

  1.  The domestic and international political analysis bulletin (twice a month).
  2.  The Political Analysis Report.
  3.  The Early Warning Report.

  International Seminars

     The "Ovidiu Sincai" Institute was solicited to be the contact point in Romania of the group for the implementation of the Willy Brandt Program. This program prioritizes the unfolding of some projects regarding the future of Europe, in the fields of informing the public opinion on the functioning model of the European Union, as well as on the costs and benefits of integration, both for the candidates and the Union.

Also, the Institute has received an offer of a perspective collaboration with the european Forum for Democracy and Solidarity.

In 2004 a framework protocole was signed with the "Friedrich Ebert" Foundation. Collaboration included, among other:

- the organization in Romania of an annual international conference concerning global political issues;
- meetings between the Romanian and German social democratic parliamentary groups (PSD - SPD) for discussing common initiatives concerning European policy; high level meetings of political experts in these two parties;
- two or three workshops regarding South-East European regional issues;
- supporting publication of books and materials concerning social democracy;
- offering, through a partnership programme with the Karl Renner Institute, 10-15 one-week scholarships in Vienna and Salzburg for f=graduates of each promotion of the "Ovidiu Sincai" School for Academic Post-University Studies.

The Institute intends to sign a framework protocole with the China Center for Contemporary World Studies from the People's Republic of China. Collaboration would include the organization of an annual seminar on ideological issues and another regarding issues of international politics and the construction of a new global order, exchanges of research papers and publications.

  The European Regional Schools

     Up to the present, the "Ovidiu Sincai" European School has already organized an edition during the year of study 2004-2005. However, there were signs that a national school is not sufficient for a country such as Romania, which has a larger surface (238,391 sq. km) and population (21.7 million inhabitants, July 2002) than any other country in South-East Europe. Moreover, there are regional differences that cannot be addressed properly and thoroughly within a single national school, thus living aside the concerns of local communities. For example, in Transylvania there are significant ethnic minorities that coexist with the majority population and that's why a seminar concerning multiethnic co-existence is needed. In Moldavia there are no significant ethnic minorities but there are a lot of people living in poverty and a lot of unemployment, that's why a seminar is needed in order to address these problems. In the southern region there are also problems related to poverty and unemployment but also a significant rural population with specific needs. To these one may add some different cultural influences in each of the three regions as a result of the historical processes of the past.

All the abovementioned factors justify the extension of the national project, as of the year 2005-2006, by adding three new regional schools.
